FRANKLIN, WIS. — Strauss Brands has agreed to sell its veal and lamb business to Catelli Brothers Family of Foods, a subsidiary of Canadian-based Preval AG, for an undisclosed amount. The transition is expected to close in the next several weeks.

The Waukesha, Wis.-based meat company, Strauss, announced plans earlier this month to discontinue the lines.

Catelli plans to shift production of the veal and lamb lines to its facilities in Collingswood, NJ, and Sutton, Mass.

Both companies expect a seamless transition with the same level of service for the lines. Strauss Brands said leaders from each company will reach out to customers to discuss transition details.

By discontinuing the two lines, Strauss hopes to use its resources to focus on its top-line growth category: grass-fed and -finished beef.

The company announced a new partnership with Eddy Foods to expand beef product offerings under its Grass Rooted label.

The partnership with Eddy brings new value-added capabilities for Strauss’ domestic grass-fed and grass-finished beef supply, including smoked sausage, sliced slow-smoked brisket, and marinated, sauced and shredded barbecue. With offerings across pork, chicken and turkey, Eddy Foods operates in 500,000 square feet of processing space in Yoakum, Texas, and Greenwood, SC. Eddy distributes nationwide.

“We are proud to have made meaningful changes in how animals are raised and treated, becoming leaders in ethical agriculture and creating a positive and lasting impact in our industry,” said Randy Strauss, chief executive officer of Strauss Brands.
