MILWAUKEE – Strauss Brands Inc., a Wisconsin-based meat processor, stated in a worker adjustment and retraining notification (WARN) notice on Oct. 11 that it would be reducing its workforce by up to 127 people.

The company told the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development that the permanent reduction is expected to occur around Dec. 10, 2023, at its Franklin, Wis., facility.

In the WARN, Strauss Brands explained it would be discontinuing its veal and lamb production.

Strauss said that some of the employees at the plant are members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, Local 1473.

“Termination decisions for employees that are members of the bargaining unit will be based on employee seniority, and these employees will have bumping rights,” Strauss said in its letter. “Termination decisions for employees that are not members of the bargaining unit will be based on business necessity, and those employees will not have bumping rights.”

The meat producer said the reduction would impact approximately 195 employees in the state of Wisconsin.
