NEW YORK — Carolina-born restaurant chain Bojangles launched two new twists on the classic chicken sandwich, both of which it believes could be “the chicken sandwich to end all wars.” Bo’s Chicken BBQ and Carolina Gold Sandwiches will be available for a limited time.

“Bojangles has already mastered the art of a juicy, hand-breaded chicken sandwich, so we decided it was time for a new challenge,” said Marshall Scarborough, vice president of menu and culinary innovation for Bojangles. “Bringing together classic Southern flavors is what we do best, and we have a feeling our guests will have a hard time picking their favorite.”

The sandwiches begin with the classic Bo’s Chicken Sandwich, which includes a marinated chicken breast that is hand breaded with a buttermilk coating and Bojangles’ secret blend of spices, thick-cut dill pickles, and a toasted, buttered bun. The new sandwich items are topped with coleslaw and a choice of Bo’s sweet and smokey house barbecue or Carolina Gold sauce — a combination of yellow mustard, apple cider vinegar, molasses and tomato.

In promoting its new menu items, Bojangles partnered with NASCAR driver and North Carolina native Dale Earnhardt Jr. as well as Lee Brice, a Grammy-nominated country music singer from South Carolina.

“I’m from the Carolinas, where barbecue sauce is just a little bit different than what you find in other areas,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “We have a vinegar-based sauce, where other places are a little sweet or spicy. I like both, but you can never go wrong with the Carolina Gold.”

“Being from the Carolinas, these Bo’s Chicken Sandwiches have a little heat to them, and a lot of love in them,” Brice said. “They’ve got a spice and a crunch you can’t find anywhere, so these feel like home to me.”
