KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Mashups are making waves on menus as restaurants offer such culinary combinations as donuts and fried chicken, candy bars and donuts, ice cream and cookies, and pizza and mozzarella sticks.
Fried chicken and glazed donuts collide in KFC’s new Kentucky Fried Chicken & Donuts. The combination comes in a basket and as a sandwich.
“Chicken & Donuts is the newest fried chicken trend we’re bringing to all of America,” said Andrea Zahumensky, chief marketing officer for KFC US. “But not just any donut would do. Only a donut that’s glazed-to-order and served piping hot every single time can stand next to our hand-breaded fried chicken. It’s a finger lickin’ good dish filled with glaze and glory.”
Pizza pairs with mozzarella sticks in Pizza Hut’s new Mozzarella Poppers Pizza. The pie featured crust topped with 16 crispy mozzarella-stuffed squares.
