Restaurants expand plant-based options.
An expanded breakfast menu at Hardee’s includes the Hot Cakes Breakfast Sandwich and Hot Cakes Breakfast Platter for a limited time. The sandwich pairs a sausage patty and folded egg between two maple hotcakes with a side of syrup. The platter includes three hotcakes, two folded eggs and a choice of sausage or bacon. Additionally, the chain is testing the Hand Breaded Chicken & Waffle Sandwich and Biscuit Double Cheeseburger in select markets.
Three new sandwiches are available for a limited time at Panera Bread restaurants. The Smokehouse BBQ Chicken Sandwich has smoked, pulled chicken with barbecue sauce, onions and Vermont white cheddar on white bread. The Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich has seared chicken thighs tossed in teriyaki sauce, pickled red onions, diced cucumbers, greens, cilantro and mayonnaise on ciabatta bread. The Chipotle Bacon Melt has bacon, smoked Gouda, American cheese and chipotle mayonnaise on white bread.
Taco Bell is testing the Cantina Crispy Melt Taco in select markets. The taco includes a fried white corn shell and melted layer of nacho cheese sauce and a three-cheese blend, topped with seasoned beef or black beans, reduced-fat sour cream, lettuce, cheddar cheese and tomatoes.
Veggie Grill has introduced a new menu of salads, sandwiches, burgers and bowls made with all plant-based ingredients. New bowls include the Masala Curry Bowl, featuring roasted butternut squash, turmeric cauliflower and braised masala-spiced chickpea curry and wild rice; and the Immunity Bowl, including roasted yams, leafy greens, roasted brussels sprouts, tempeh, quinoa and lentils with a miso mushroom sauce. New salads include the Classic Romaine Caesar and the Kale + Quinoa Power Salad. Veggie Grill is also offering the new Deli Sub with deli-style cold cuts and the Reuben on Rye made with a plant-based corned beef. New burger options include the House Veggie Burger, which includes a wild mushroom patty topped with arugula, tomatoes, basil aioli and pickled onion; The Griller, which has a Beyond Burger topped with lettuce, tomato, American cheese and special sauce, and the Chili Burger, which has a grilled tempeh burger toped with white bean chili, crispy onion strings and dill pickle.
Fast-casual pizza chain Your Pie is introducing the Chicken Al Pastor pizza, topped with avocado-pineapple salsa, jalapeño, mozzarella, smoked chipotle ranch and lime. Another new item, Fresh Mex Cheese Sticks, is topped with avocado-pineapple salsa and served with a side of smoked chipotle ranch.
