OTTAWA, Ontario – The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced that the US Department of Agriculture has re-listed Brooks, Alberta-based XL Foods, Inc. which will allow the company to resume shipments of beef to the US immediately.

“Demonstrative of XL Foods Inc. renewed commitment and ability to meet its high food standards, the US has granted Establishment 38 [XL Foods] the ability to export to the US. Establishments wishing to export product internationally must satisfy the food safety and quality standards of the importing country and are subject to routine sampling at the border,” CFIA said in a statement posted on the agency's web site.

CFIA added that agency's enhanced oversight activities continue at the company's XL Lakeside plant. XL Foods resumed domestic shipments of a wide range of products, including ground beef and steaks, in November. XL Foods’ recall of meat products earlier this fall was the largest beef recall in Canadian history. The Public Health Agency of Canada confirmed at least 17 illnesses were linked to the specific strain of E. coli O157:H7 found during the XL Foods outbreak investigation.
