NORTHFIELD, Ill. – Kraft Foods, parent company of the Oscar Mayer meat brand, has expanded its sustainability goals by adding transportation and agricultural commodities to what it will be measuring.

By the end of 2015 (from a 2010 base), Kraft plans to:

• Increase agricultural commodity sustainable sourcing by 25 percent
• Cut manufacturing plant energy use by 15 percent
• Reduce energy-related CO2 emissions in manufacturing plants by 15 percent
• Cut manufacturing plant water consumption by 15 percent
• Reduce manufacturing plant waste by 15 percent
• Eliminate 50,000 metric tons (100 million lbs.) of packaging material
• Reduce 50 million miles from its transportation network

Kraft said it has made significant progress in reducing energy, CO2 emissions, water, waste, packaging and transportation throughout its global operations since 2005. From 2005 through 2010:

• Energy use has been cut by 16 percent
• CO2 emissions have dropped 18 percent
• Incoming water has been reduced by 30 percent
• Net waste has been shed by 42 percent
• Packaging has been reduced by 100,000 metric tons (200 million lbs)
• Its transportation/distribution network has removed 60 million road miles.
