CORREGGIO, ITALY — Italian charcuterie brand Veroni is introducing a new animal well-being program, which debuted  at the IDDBA show in Anaheim, Calif., June 4-6. By the end of 2023, Veroni will transition all its trays to be produced with a “Humanly Raised Meat” certification claim.

“Launching our charcuterie humanely raised certificated is a big success for us,” said Marco Veroni, president of Veroni USA. “We know that the charcuterie sector has changed a lot over time, and we’ve been able to capitalize on the key trends in the segment. This certification means an additional guarantee for our consumers, they can trust us not only for the authentic taste of our products but also for our transparency.”

Veroni’s program follows the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare:

  • Freedom from hunger, malnutrition and thirst
  • Freedom from fear and distress
  • Freedom from physical and thermal discomfort
  • Freedom from pain, injury and disease
  • Freedom to express normal patterns of behavior

During the production process, Veroni stores pork that adheres to its animal welfare program separately and identifies it with a unique label.

At IDDBA, Veroni is showcasing new products that are certified under the program. Items offered at the show include the Maxi antipasto line, which comes in a new tray made with 75% less plastic than traditional Veroni trays. Also featured are different types of Salami Chubs and their sliced versions, the new pairing options of the snack line, and a restyled Enjoy AperiTime line — a charcuterie board that combines deli meats, cheese and dried fruits.
