KANSAS CITY, MO. – The North American Meat Institute (NAMI) has announced this year’s Animal Care & Handling Conference will be held May 25-26 in Kansas City, Mo., at the Marriott Downtown. The day-and-a-half event, which previously was held in the fall prior to the pandemic, is designed to bring together those who handle live animals at meat and poultry processing plants and other stakeholders, providing education and networking opportunities to improve animal welfare practices throughout the food supply chain.

According to NAMI, the event addresses issues affecting meat processing companies and provides key strategies for continuous improvement in animal care. The 2023 event will feature sessions focused on new technology and innovation in animal welfare, including advances in stunning methods, animal welfare research, insights into species-specific animal welfare metrics and new tools to drive continuous improvement. For more details about the event, including registration and this year’s agenda, visit NAMI’s website.

“Attendees will hear from leading academic and industry experts and walk away with best practices in producing and managing livestock and meat products,” NAMI said.

NAMI is also hosting a pre-conference webinar, “Thinking Creatively About CO2 Alternatives and Recapture,” on April 13 at 11 a.m. (EST), featuring Nicole Krefting, chief executive officer of HEFT and Chris Carson, founder and principal director of Carbonic Solutions BV.
