MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO – Walmart Canada recently announced that it would purchase an additional 1 million lbs of beef from certified sustainable Canadian farms and ranches.

The company previously committed to purchasing 1.5 million lbs in October 2021.

“As we continue on our journey to becoming a regenerative company, we’re always looking for opportunities to provide our customers with options that are better for the planet,” said Rob Pereira, senior director of meat and seafood at Walmart Canada. “Increasing our commitment to sourcing beef from certified sustainable Canadian farms and ranches along with adopting fully recyclable packaging for our ground beef are changes we’re really proud of.”

Beef producers supplying Walmart Canada are part of a third-party certified program. They are required to meet practices established by the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (CRSB).

Along with the beef itself, Walmart Canada said the ground beef and burger trays are now 100% recyclable and feature a “How2Recycle” label.

Walmart Canada includes more than 400 stores that serve an estimated 1.5 million customers daily.
