HARMONY, NC. — North Carolina officials confirmed that a 43-year-old Tyson Foods employee was killed on July 29 following a tractor-trailer incident at a poultry by-product processing plant.

Jason Bare was struck while working at River Valley Ingredients, a division of Tyson, when another worker was backing the tractor-trailer into a loading dock.

Two local fire departments, Iredell EMS and the North Iredell Rescue Squad all responded around 6:48 p.m.

Tyson released a statement about the incident and how it plans to respond going forward.

“We’re working with local authorities to investigate what happened and appreciate the quick response and support of local emergency responders,” the company said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the team member’s family, friends and co-workers; our chaplains and support personnel have been made available to all who were affected by his loss.”
