WASHINGTON – A public health alert was issued by the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on April 2 for a small amount of sausage product produced by Century Oak Packing Co., based in Mt. Angel, Ore. Approximately 39 lbs of raw, frozen chorizo sausage was suspected of containing hard pieces of crystalline material.

The issue was discovered after the company received three complaints from consumers who reported finding the extraneous material in the product. Because the products are not thought to be available for purchase any longer, the FSIS did not request a recall be issued. The suspected products were sold to retail outlets in Oregon and at a Farmer’s Market.

The products were produced on March 8, 2021, and include: 1-lb packages of “Lonely Lane Farms Family Farm Since 1939 OREGON RAISED Chorizo Sausage.” The product ID number is 21067-6. They are labeled with the establishment number “EST. M40256” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
