WATERLOO, Ontario – There’s a shape and size of meat snack to suit a variety of preferences — from nuggets and bars to sticks and strips and now, whips. Piller’s Fine Foods recently launched Salami Whips, which are semi-dry cured and wood-smoked meat snacks available in 100-g. re-sealable and 15-g. single-serve packages.
Piller’s noted that the “buggy whip” shape is widely available in Europe, but the company’s Salami Whips are the first whip-shaped product available in Canada’s leading retail stores, including Loblaws, Zehrs, Sobeys, Freshco, Fortinos, Real Canadian Superstore, No Frills, and Foodland.
The whips are available in Mild (traditional German salami with notes of black pepper and exotic spices); Spicy (traditional Central European salami with robust onion, garlic and habanero notes); and Kabanosy (traditional Polish salami with garlic and paprika).
“Authenticity continues to be a key trend in food, including snack foods,” said Stephanie Egan, marketing manager, Piller’s Fine Foods. “Consumers are interested in real food and a return to the values of craftsmanship and time-honored traditions. According to Nielsen, meat is one of the top snack categories for sales growth in Canada, outpacing growth in chips and corn snacks, dry fruit, and nuts.
“Much of the growth in meat snacks is being driven by millennials,” Egan added. “Snack foods are the most commonly found consumer packaged goods in millennials’ shopping baskets. With 59 per cent of their food occasions occurring as snacks, millennials are significantly more likely to snack compared to older consumers.”
