SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Seaboard Triumph Foods’ processing plant in the Bridgeport West Industrial Park in Sioux City, Iowa, is nearly finished, but the company already has plans to expand the new facility and add a second shift. The company said a second shift will allow the facility to process approximately six million hogs annually.

Seaboard Triumph plans to produce a full line of fresh pork products for international, retail, foodservice and further processing markets.  Seaboard Foods will market and sell the pork. Seaboard Foods currently markets and sells fresh pork processed at the Triumph Foods plant in St. Joseph, Missouri, and Seaboard Foods’, Guymon, Oklahoma, plant to domestic markets under the PrairieFresh Premium Pork brand, in addition to international markets under the Seaboard Farms and St. Joe Pork brands.

“The timing of the expansion for a second shift is a result of growing demand for the Seaboard Foods line of quality pork products as well as ongoing growth in the industry,” Mark Porter, Seaboard Triumph Foods COO, said in a statement. “The support demonstrated thus far by our customers, community, city and state agencies simply gives us great confidence to grow right here in northwest Iowa.”

The plant will employ approximately 2,000 individuals including 200 salaried positions and 1,800 hourly production positions, the company said. The initial start-up is planned for August. Construction on the expansion is slated to begin in the spring and with completion set for the summer of 2018.

Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott said “… As one of the largest projects in Sioux City, this expansion will create the demand for further housing growth to accommodate new employees in the region.”
