WASHINGTON – Chicken products recalled by National Steak and Poultry may have been used as an ingredient in other food products, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the US Dept. of Agriculture said in a public health alert.

Owasso, Oklahoma-based National Steak and Poultry launched a recall of 1.99 million lbs. of product due to the possibility of it being undercooked. FSIS said the agency does not have confidence in the safety of any subsequently produced products that have used or incorporated the affected chicken products. FSIS became aware that the recalled chicken products were used as an ingredient in other products before National Steak and Poultry reported the products may have been undercooked. FSIS said that for safety reasons, consumers who purchased the affected items are urged not to consume them.

“Ajinomoto Windsor, Inc., a Portland, Oregon, establishment; Aryzta LLC a Romeoville, Illinois, establishment; Nation Pizza Products Limited a Schaumburg, Illinois, establishment; and Southwest Products LLC, a San Diego, California, establishment, all used or incorporated the recalled chicken products produced by National Steak and Poultry as an ingredient in their own FSIS-regulated products,” FSIS said in the alert. “These establishments were not aware that the recalled poultry may have been undercooked at the time that the recalled poultry was further processed into products for sale to consumers by them.”

FSIS issued the public health alert because of the large volume of product impacted by the recall and the fact that many affected products now bear different establishment numbers than previously identified on the original and expanded recall. FSIS said the agency will be conducting effectiveness checks to confirm that these products have been removed from commerce.

The products subject to the alert bear establishment numbers “P-18356”, “P-2539B”, “P-1682A”, and “P-17417” inside the USDA mark of inspection, FSIS said. The products were shipped to warehouses, distributors, and retail locations nationwide.
