CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. – A chicken barn housing about 19,000 birds was destroyed by fire on Feb. 9. No human injuries were reported.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and the Canton Fire Department responded to the emergency at 9:45 am. Firefighters arrived at the scene and found heavy smoke and flames coming from a chicken house. The 400-ft.-long building contained about 19,000 chickens. Cherokee County Fire reported that the structure and most of the chickens were a complete loss. Firefighters were able to control the fire by 10:21 am.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
