ATLANTA–- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced six newly released outbreaks — for its iPad app.

The Atlanta-based CDC released “Solve the Outbreak,” a free iPad app interactive game that lets users become epidemiologists on the trail of an outbreak. As a member of the Epidemic Intelligence Service, iPad users can get an interactive perspective of epidemiology at work. The outbreaks were developed with help from CDC scientists and experts.

The games begin when a new outbreak is suspected. Players are tasked with finding out what's happening and why, how the outbreak started and how it's spread. Players can earn badges and achievements as they move up the ranks to Disease Detective.

New app features include sound effects, new levels and achievements, according to CDC. The app is available free on iTunes.
