SOUTH JEOLLA PROVINCE, South Korea — Korea DuckHerd has completed construction on a 33,000 sq. meter duck meat processing plant, the largest in Asia, according to local news reports.

The plant has a slaughter capacity of 72,000 ducks and processing capacity for 36,000 birds. The plant features state-of-the-art automated systems for slaughter, processing and packing, according to news reports. The new facility will allow Korea DuckHerd to been expansion into the high-end Chinese market for duck meat in 2014. The company already has achieved an export goal of $5 million in Australia in 2012.


Korea's duck meat market more than doubled in 2011, while per-capita consumption of duck meat increased four-fold to 3.13 kg. in 2011 from 0.72 kg. in 2004, according to news reports.
