Totaling 3.79 billion lbs., the May revised certified total was up 8 percent from May 2010. The May revision represented an increase of 10.0 million
lbs. from last month's preliminary pounds certified.
The preliminary total live weight of all federally inspected poultry during June 2011 was 5.11 billion lbs., up 5 percent from 4.88 billion lbs. a year ago. Young chickens inspected totaled 4.37 billion lbs., up 4 percent from June 2010. Mature chickens, at 79.0 million lbs., were up 12 percent from the previous year. Turkey inspections totaled 650 million lbs., up 7 percent from a year ago. Ducks totaled 14.0 million lbs., up 3 percent from last year.
During June, young chickens slaughtered averaged 5.81 lbs. per bird, up 3 percent from June 2010. The average live weight of mature chickens was 6.03 lbs. per bird, up 5 percent from a year ago. Turkeys slaughtered during June 2011 averaged 29.3 lbs. per bird, up 1 percent from June 2010.
