OAKWOOD, GA. — Ongoing severe winter weather continues to impact poultry processors across Texas and the Southeast.

Processor Wayne-Sanderson Farms announced that the company’s Danville, Ark., Tyler, Texas and Palestine, Texas, processing plants would not operate on Jan. 16 due to “current and forecasted severe weather conditions.”

A prepared foods facility in Decatur, Ala., also would not operate on that day. Other plants throughout the region were open after numerous delays or canceled shifts.

The processing facility employees in Decatur will not operate on Jan. 16, but the second and third shifts are planned to work as normally scheduled.

The company’s Albertville, Ala., plant will still run its first processing (7:54 a.m.) and deboning shifts (10:30 a.m.) along with the second and third shifts at scheduled times.

At its McComb, Miss., facility, Wayne-Sanderson said it would not operate its first shift but expects its second and third shifts to report for normally scheduled work.

The Flowood, Miss., prepared foods facility employees working the first shift will start at 10 a.m.

Processing plants in Collins, Hazlehurst and Laurel Miss., will operate on modified shifts for Jan. 16.

For Bryan and Waco, Texas, first-shift workers will operate with a two-hour delay starting at 7 a.m. Second and third-shift employees should report to work as normally scheduled.

Wayne-Sanderson asked live production employees for these locations to contact their supervisor about their work schedule.

MEAT+POULTRY will try to update conditions from other poultry processing companies.
