CHICAGO — After nearly four years since making its debut, McDonald’s Corp. announced it is bringing back its Double Big Mac. On Jan. 9, the fast-food giant announced its first returning, limited time offer at its US restaurants will be the oversized version of its iconic burger. As part of the burger’s glow up, which begins Jan. 24 and for an unspecified amount of time, McDonald’s will serve up the Double Big Mac, which features more beef (four beef patties), more sauce (an extra dose of Big Mac sauce) along with the standard lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions served on a sesame seed bun.

The reintroduction of the burger is expected to be an upgrade from the 2020 version, given McDonald’s Culinary Innovation team’s efforts to enhance flavor and the eating experience of its burgers by tweaking the ingredients and preparation methods. In 2023, the company promoted the changes, which included:

•    Softer, pillowy buns that are freshly toasted to a golden brown.

•    Perfectly melted cheese.

•    Juicier, caramelized flavor from adding white onions to the patties while they’re cooking on the grill.

•    Adding more Big Mac sauce.
