TROTUMAN, NC. — Poultry producer and processor Case Farms achieved a new safety milestone. On Dec. 8, the company’s Winesburg, Ohio Complex reached 3 million work hours without experiencing an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordable lost-time accident (LTA).

"This is no simple task and the first time the Winesburg Complex has achieved this milestone,” said Jeff Shanabarger, regional safety manager of Ohio Divisions. “It involves every team member across the complex working together to promote a safe workplace. This milestone continues the trend our company set with our commitment to safety."

This achievement is the second time this year the Winesburg facility reached the safety milestone.

In September, the Winesburg facility reached 1 million work hours without an LTA. Last May, the facility achieved 2 million work hours without an incident.

An LTA occurs when an employee receives an injury that a doctor has determined prevents them from coming back to work until fully recovered.

Case Farms said it typically takes five to six months for a facility to reach 1 million work hours without an LTA.

Founded in 1986, Case Farms currently processes 3.7 million birds per week with the support of its 3,300 team members. Annually, the company produces 1.1 billion lbs of fresh, partially cooked and frozen-for-export poultry products.

Case Farms operates in Ohio and North Carolina.
