WASHINGTON — Kenner, La.-based Del Valle Import and Export LLC is recalling around 21,105 lbs of raw pork chorizo products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection, announced the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on Oct. 20.

The following product, which was produced between Oct. 1-18, is subject to recall:

  • 14-oz plastic tub containers containing “Chorizo Olanchano Mezcla de chorizo Centroamericano Centroamerican Brand Chorizo Mix.”

The Del Valle owner produced the items in their own home, using a falsified establishment number. The chorizo bears the establishment number “EST. 1150,” which does not exist, FSIS said.

The problem was discovered during FSIS surveillance activities, when the agency determined that the manufacturer produced the pork chorizo products without the benefit of federal inspection.

There have been no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the products.
