WASHINGTON- Two recalls were announced by the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on July 14-15.

Suya Slice LLC, in Memphis, Tenn., recalled approximately 445 lbs of ready-to-eat beef products produced without federal inspection.

The problem was discovered when FSIS followed up on a referral from the Illinois Department of Agriculture and discovered beef products that were produced without the USDA mark of inspection at a retail location. The agency determined the meat was not produced in a USDA-inspected establishment.

The ready-to-eat beef jerky and marinated skewered beef products were produced between Oct. 16, 2021, and May 20, 2023. The following products are included in the recall:

  • 1.5-oz. plastic resealable bag packages of beef jerky containing “Suya Slice Kilishi Beef Jerky” on the label.
  • 5-oz. plastic resealable bag packages of marinated skewered beef containing “Suya Slice Suya” on the label.

The products subject to recall do not bear the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to customers via online sales and to retail locations nationwide.

Mulan Dumpling LLC, in Hyattsville, Md., recalled 1,560 lbs of frozen meat and poultry products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection.

The issue was discovered when FSIS received a referral from the Maryland Department of Health and observed that the meat and poultry dumpling products were produced and sold by an establishment that was not inspected by FSIS.

Several types of frozen dumpling products were produced between February 20 and June 26, 2023. The following products are subject to recall:

  • 8-oz plastic bag packages containing 10 pieces of “Mulan Dumpling Pork & Cabbage Dumplings.”
  • 8-oz plastic bag packages containing 10 pieces of “Mulan Dumpling Curry Seasoned Chicken Dumplings.”
  • 8-oz plastic bag packages containing 10 pieces of “Mulan Dumpling Shrimp & Chives Dumplings” containing pork.

Even though the products subject to recall bear the USDA mark of inspection, they were produced in an establishment without a federal grant of inspection. These items were shipped to retail grocery store locations in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of products that were part of either recall.
