WASHINGTON – Approximately 200 lbs of ready-to-eat chili topping product was recalled by Harrison, Ohio-based J.T.M. Provisions Co., a subsidiary of J.T.M. Food Group, over concerns that the product was mislabeled, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The action was taken after a consumer notified J.T.M. that bags labeled as homestyle chili topping actually contained beef taco filling, which contains soy and was not declared as an allergen on the label.

The products in question were produced March 14, 2023, and were in cases that were labeled as beef taco filling. The following product is the focus of the recall:

  • 5-lb boilable plastic bags of “Gordon Choice Homestyle Chili Topping” with lot code 230732002 and are marked with establishment number 1917A in the USDA mark of inspection.

Shipments of the product were made to customers in the institutional and retail segments. No illnesses or adverse reactions resulting from the consumption of the products have been reported.
