WASHINGTON — The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced recalls for beef products from two separate establishments on April 20.
Weinstein Wholesale Meats Inc., based in Forest Park, Ill., is recalling over 2,000 lbs of raw ground beef products suspected to be contaminated with extraneous materials.
The following products, which were produced on March 14, are subject to the recall:
- 10.7-oz vacuum-sealed packages containing two pieces of "100% Grass Fed & Finished Beef Burger Patties 85% Lean/15% Fat" and with "Use/Freeze By 4/11/23" on the package label.
The beef burger patties bear the establishment number “Est. 6987” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to an online distributor, who sold the products nationwide.
FSIS suspects the products contain white pieces of neoprene. The problem was discovered after Weinstein Wholesale Meats received multiple complaints of white “rubber-like” material in the ground beef during preparation.
FSIS also announced Bruno Beef Strips, based in Monroe, Wis., is recalling more than 7,000 lbs of ready-to-eat beef strips. The snack sticks contain an undeclared allergen, hydrolyzed soy protein.
The State of Wisconsin Department of Agriculture notified FSIS that they identified a spice mix containing hydrolyzed soy protein in the beef snack formula that was not included on the product label ingredients.
The RTE beef strips were produced April 20, 2022, through April 4, 2023. The following is subject to the recall:
- 1.6-oz vacuumed package containing “BRUNO BEEF STRIPS PEPPER & GARLIC SNACK STICKS” with lot codes 22110 through 23094 located at the bottom of the packaging.
The products bear the establishment number “EST. 373SEWI” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to retail and wholesale locations in Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of either the beef burger patties or the beef strips.
