ST. JOSEPH, MO. — On March 28, Triumph Foods and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) Local 2 hosted a delegation from the US Department of Labor’s (DOL) Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) at the company’s St. Joseph, Mo., facility.
UFCW Local 2 selected Triumph to host Douglas L. Parker, the assistant secretary of labor at OSHA, for a plant tour and to see Triumph’s safety record.
“Worker health and safety has been a top priority at Triumph, which has made it a better place to work,” said Martin Rosas, president of UFCW Local 2. “These are practices that can inform OSHA’s programs and policies — because we know they work, and they can improve the work that food processors do to feed our country.”
OSHA also visited the plant in April 2022 to learn about frontline workers and safety practices for the meat industry.
According to Triumph, UFCW recommended the company to OSHA due to its record and continual improvement of worker safety during the pandemic.
“We are honored that our safety-first culture continues to be recognized,” said Matt England, president and chief executive officer of Triumph Foods. “Our team members work together to create the safest environment to produce the highest quality pork products, and we are honored to be able to show Assistant Secretary Parker a model for how industry and labor can work together to feed a growing world.”
Triumph was awarded the 2022 NAMI Worker Safety Recognition Award for the second year in a row.
