WASHINGTON – A public health alert for imported meat and poultry products from China has been issued by the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The amount of product is unknown as is the source of the importers , which is why a recall was not requested by the FSIS.

While the products and labels are known (listed here), they do not include the manufacturer’s establishment number on the packaging. They were not presented for reinspection for import by the FSIS and were ineligible for import into the United States and deemed unfit for consumption. The issue was discovered after investigators from the US Customs and Border Protection and USDA’s Animal and Plant Health inspection Service identified the problem. The USDA urged retailers who purchased the products to not sell them and to dispose of them safely.

No illnesses or injuries have resulted from the consumption of the products.
