OAKWOOD, GA. – Poultry processor Wayne Farms, a subsidiary of Continental Grain, adopted remote viewing technology for use at the company’s processing facilities. The processor is working with technology-provider AMA and the company’s XpertEye software.

XpertEye is a web-based platform that provides real-time, high-quality video and audio using RealWear HMT devices which are head-mounted “wearables” designed for industrial environments. Wayne Farms plans to use the technology for a variety of applications including:

  • Virtual customer audits, farm tours and production orientation sessions
  • Customer collaboration and product development
  • Oversight, quality control and compliance management
  • Vendor and supplier management and collaboration
  • Equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and installation

The real-time video streaming capability allows transparency and accuracy for animal welfare or quality control audits, while reducing physical visits to farms, plants and other facilities. This functionality enhances safety for team members, customers and suppliers, according to AMA, which has offices in Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Romania, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States.

“XpertEye transforms a remote discussion into a hands-on engagement,” said Tom Bell, vice president of Prepared Food Sales for Wayne Farms and an early adopter of the new technology. Bell recently conducted a “smart glasses” narrative walking tour of specific production lines, then created a marketing video from the edited content.

“It’s an amazing technology,” he said. “What you see is what they see — educating distributors, engaging customers, communicating with team members — the applications for this are endless.”
