WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Alewel’s Country Meats has been producing quality fresh meats and homemade specialty products since Hugo Alewel started the business 85 years ago. What started out as a small downtown grocery store is now a federally inspected meat processing and retail facility. In addition to celebrating its 85th anniversary, the Warrensburg, Missouri, family business can now celebrate being named the best beef jerky by Real Simple magazine. The magazine recently did a taste test of over 100 varieties of beef jerky and Alewel’s Country Meats’ original beef jerky was selected as the best.

“Tasters fell for the classic chew and mild kick in the Alewel Beef Jerky,” Real Simple said. “They also swooned over the brand’s history of being family run for over 80 years.”

“We were thrilled when we received the call that we had been selected as the ‘Best Original Beef Jerky,’” said Randy Alewel, third-generation CEO of Alewel’s. “It has been one of our customers’ favorites for many years, so it is nice to see it well received on the national stage.”

The company has received other recognition recently Alewel’s was awarded the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce 2017 Business of the Year, for example. In addition, CEO Randy Alewel was presented with the American Association of Meat Processors Accomplishment Award this past year, the organization’s highest award.
