GLENDALE, CALIF. — IHOP is launching Simple & Fit menu items as a way of designating menu products that are less than 600 calories.

“We’re excited to empower our guests who seek creative options and want to make more informed decisions at mealtime,” said Carolyn O’Keefe, senior vice-president of marketing. “IHOP’s Simple & Fit under 600 calories selections offer simple nutrition suggestions throughout our menu.”

The lower-calorie menu items include whole wheat french toast combo; seasonal fresh fruit crepes; spinach, mushroom and tomato omelet; simply chicken sandwich; fresh fruit and yogurt bowl; grilled tilapia, and more. The restaurant chain has more than 30 selections that fit the Simple & Fit designation, and the company also is providing tips on the menu on how to have lower-calorie versions of some traditional IHOP items. Some of the calorie-reducing suggestions include holding the butter or whipped topping, using sugar-free syrup, requesting an egg substitute and substituting turkey bacon for regular bacon.

On the menu, the lower-calorie options are designated with a green icon, and the tips to reduce calories when having other menu items are in a green box throughout the menu.

The company also has revamped its Just for Kids section with all 14 children’s menu items coming in under 600 calories.
