The company allegedly discharged wash water, animal fat into a nearby creek.

OKLAHOMA CITY – OK Foods, a subsidiary of Industrias Bachoco SAB de CV, faces misdemeanor criminal charges for illegally discharging waste into water near the company’s fully cooked chicken product plant in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Court records indicate the incident occurred on March 25, 2017. An accidental spill resulted in a wastewater discharge on land near the plant. The Dept. of Environmental Quality reported a second discharge in May that was caused by a pump failure that caused waste materials to back up and flow onto the ground.

The charge of unpermitted discharge to waters of the state or elsewhere carries a penalty of $25,000 each day of violation and a year in jail.

The plant produces more than 700,000 lbs. of fully cooked chicken products per week.
