“This project is representative of the company’s continued commitment to implement innovative solutions aimed at improving customer service, upgrading ergonomics and enhancing our capability to the produce and distribute new products to the market,” said Triumph Foods CEO Mark Campbell.
The expansion project includes robotic palletization technology designed to increase the speed of outbound shipping and reduce manual handling of finished products, according to the company. Extra value-added product storage in the new facility will allow the company’s strategic partner, Seaboard Farms, to expand the marketing of its value-added pork line to retail and foodservice customers. Pork processed at the St. Joseph facility is sold under the PrairieFresh Premium Pork brand.
Chicago-based architecture, engineering and construction firm Epstein will be handling the design and construction management of the project.
This past June, the plant completed a $1.5 million expansion project at the facility. Previous renovation and expansions at the plant, which opened about 11 years ago, included adding refrigeration and storage space as well as converting the slaughtering area to a controlled atmosphere stunning (CAS) system.
