Bacon domination continues on foodservice menus.

Patrick Fleming, director of Market Intelligence and Innovation at the National Pork Board, noted that over the past 12 months, leading restaurant chains released more than 560 limited-time menu offerings featuring bacon.

Mooyah Burgers, Fries & Shakes recently celebrated the success of the chain’s Taste to Try campaign which featured a new customized sandwich recipe each month. Five of the chain’s eight Taste to Try offerings featured bacon as a topping. The strategy proved wildly successful for the fast-casual better burger chain.

For example, Mooyah noted that check averages with Taste to Try items have been more than 40 percent higher than checks without a Taste to Try item during 2016. Mooyah also saw steady month-over-month sales growth with the introduction of each new option, in addition to increased customer engagement.

The premium offerings had staying power as guests continued ordering previous months’ Taste to Try favorites. For example, The Double Diablo, which was launched in February, was still being ordered in high numbers through November. Mooyah is adding the burger to a new menu set to roll out in all locations during the first half of 2017.

The success of the Taste to Try promotion led to The Burger Hall of “Dang!” promotion which will run through the end of the year.

“We are extremely excited about the way our guests have responded to this fun promotion spotlighting all the incredible combinations that are available at Mooyah,” said Natalie Anderson Liu, vice president of Marketing for Mooyah. “We are constantly looking for ways we can provide value back to our guests and innovate in the better burger space. Promotions like the Taste to Try are an example of our commitment to providing more flavors for guests to love, as well as growing unit-level sales with our franchisees. Ultimately this program has set Mooyah up for even further growth and success through an enhanced experience.”
