JEFFERSON, Wis. – Tyson Foods Inc.’s prepared foods plant in Jefferson will close its doors for good on July 9, according to a filing with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. The company announced in November the closure of the Jefferson plant and another facility in Chicago.
The Jefferson facility produces sliced pepperoni and ham for pizza toppings in addition to sliced pepperoni and salami products for the foodservice and deli segment. The company decided to close the facility because of changing product needs, age of the facility and the prohibitive costs to renovate the plant.
The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice filed with the state’s DWD said 248 employees will be impacted by the plant closure. Tyson Foods acquired the plant as part of the company’s acquisition of IBP, Inc. in 2001.
