KANSAS CITY, Mo. – When the Lehigh Valley IronPigs put on their uniforms this year, it won’t have a team logo.
Instead, sprawled across their chest will be “Bacon USA.”
The IronPigs wore similar jerseys in 2014, but have now doubled down in 2016. Every Saturday, the Philadelphia Phillies’ Triple-A affiliate will don bacon-clad jerseys as well as a hat with a bacon strip on it.
It’s an identity that the blue-collar area of Allentown, Pennsylvania, has adapted over the past few years and now bacon will be in full force.
To get a local perspective, MEAT+POULTRY reached out to Jon Schaeffer, vice president of media and communications, on why this has become such as successful branding experience of bacon.
