The day-long celebration on Oct. 6 will highlight the past, present and future of the center. Students will be treated to a free chicken fajita lunch supported by Tyson, Simmons and George’s. Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson will be the featured speaker. John Tyson, the son of Don Tyson and grandson of company founder John W. Tyson, and Poultry Federation President Marvin Childers also will attend the event.
The Center of Excellence for Poultry Science’s mission is to help poultry industry stakeholders — producers, processors and marketing firms — remain competitive in global markets. The center also conducts research projects in food safety, food security, environmental stewardship and animal welfare, among other topics. The CEPS includes the Univ. of Arkansas poultry science department, scientists from the Agricultural Research Service of the US Department of Agriculture and faculty from several departments at the Fayetteville campus in addition to the other campuses within the state.
