WICHITA, Kan. – Cargill has expanded its offerings of turkey products that are produced without growth-promoting antibiotics.

The 700 independent farms that produce the turkeys are subject to the US Department of Agriculture’s Process Verified Program requirements which call for third-party audits of farm practices, including animal handling by trained personnel and detailed documentation for ongoing federal compliance. In 2014, Cargill began offering Process Verified turkeys in 2014. Now, the program has expanded to include ground turkey, tenderloins, bratwurst and sausage produced for the Honeysuckle White and Shady Brook Farms brands.

“We know many families are trying to make better-informed choices at the grocery store, including the 52 percent trying to eat more healthful, leaner cuts of meat [according to a 2014 Cargill national survey of 1,600 turkey consumers],” Jan Hood, marketing lead for Shady Brook Farms and Honeysuckle White, said. “Yet, some of these products come at a price that isn't always affordable in a weekly grocery budget.

“People should have access to affordable quality food, so we are offering our premium turkey products, produced from turkeys raised without growth-promoting antibiotics, without a premium price.”
