RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. – Concerns aboutSalmonella contamination prompted OC Raw Dog of Rancho Santa Margarita to recall 2,055 lbs. of Turkey & Produce Raw Frozen Canine Formulation, the Food and Drug Administration reported.

The affected products are limited to Turkey & Produce Raw Frozen Canine Formulations that were packaged into 6.5-lb. Doggie Dozen Patties and 5-lb. Bulk Bags with the lot number 1511 and use by date of Oct. 8, 2015. The products were distributed in Minnesota, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Colorado and sold to consumers through independent pet specialty retailers.

OC Raw Dog initiated the recall following a Nebraska Department of Food and Agriculture routine sampling which revealed a presumptive positive forSalmonella. The company stopped production and distribution of the formulation, and the FDA and OC Raw Dog are investigating the cause of the contamination.

“We will be making several changes to our methods of production in order to further protect the product we so firmly believe in,” the company said in a statement.

Salmonellacan sicken animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after handling the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.
