CHESHIRE, Conn. – The “better burger” trend continues as Cheshire, Conn.-based Wayback Burgers announced it is signing a franchise development agreement to open 47 restaurants in South Texas.
“This franchise agreement marks a significant expansion milestone for Wayback Burgers as we continue to expand the brand outside of our East Coast roots,” said Bill Chemero, executive vice president. “Our franchisee’s deep connection to the area as a local resident paired with his restaurant industry knowledge makes him the ideal franchise partner to maximize the potential of Wayback Burgers becoming a household name in the market.”

Founded in Newark, Del., in 1991 as Jake’s Wayback Burgers, the chain has more than 100 stores in 24 states as well as 28 countries. Wayback is on the verge of opening 30 restaurants in Argentina.
As the name implies, the fast-casual restaurant specializes in hamburgers. But unlike its competitors in the fast-casual burger market, such as Five Guys, Wayback offers a larger menu with items such as milkshakes, salads, veggie burgers and turkey burgers. Gluten-free items are also featured on the menu.
