OPELIKA, Ala. – Golden State Foods announced plans to build a new meat processing facility in the Northeast Opelika Industrial Park. The company estimates the cost to build the facility between $40 and $45 million. The new plant will create 173 new jobs.

"After careful consideration, we selected Opelika as the site for our new facility based on the strategic location along I-85, the available workforce and the atmosphere of industry and government cooperation," said Wayne Morgan, corporate vice president, president, Meat Group.


Irvine, Calif.-based Golden State Foods is one of the world's largest diversified suppliers to the quick-service restaurant industry with $6.6 billion in annual sales. GSF services more than 125,000 stores and 100 customers on five continents from its 45 facilities. Its core businesses include processing of meat and other products, and it is full-line distribution to the food industry. Golden State employs approximately 4,500 workers worldwide.
