Stampede Meat and two staffing firms face OSHA fines for worker safety violations.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – Stampede Meat Inc. faces fines of $45,500 following an inspection by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The agency initiated the inspection on April 30 following a complaint.

Stampede Meat received a citation for one repeated and one serious safety violation. The repeat violation was for failure to provide training for new employees and temporary workers on handling hazardous materials such as refrigerant ammonia. The serious violation was for failing provide emergency action plan training.

Additionally, Flexible Staffing Services, Lake Hills, Ill., and Accurate Personnel, Chicago received citations for failing to train workers in hazardous materials handling. The companies face penalties of $14,000 each. OSHA said the companies supply about 1,200 workers to Stampede Meat.

Stampede Meat specializes in custom beef, pork and chicken products for the foodservice, retail and military. The company’s products include prepared value-added meats, portion cuts and fully cooked cuts of beef. Stampede Meat customers include Applebee’s and Costco.
