PESCADERO, Calif. – LeftCoast Grassfed, a producer of grass-fed and grass-finished beef, announced its own recall of all its beef processed in 2013 in cooperation with a federal investigation into Petaluma, Calif.-based Rancho Feeding Corp.

Rancho Feeding Corp. recently recalled approximately 8,742,700 lbs. of meat products that were processed from diseased and "unsound" animals without federal inspection. The company processes cattle produced by LeftCoast Grassfed.

In a statement on the company's website, LeftCoast Grassfed explained it had contracted with Rancho Feeding "on a handful of days in the summer and fall of 2013". The company is recalling product "out of an abundance of caution" although no illnesses have been reported and there is no evidence the safety of LeftCoast Grassfed's product has been compromised.

In its message on the company's website, the company went on to say, "We are sorry for this inconvenience and saddened by the waste of millions of pounds of meat, some of which, like ours, was raised with meticulous care and attention to the health and well-being of the animals that produced it. While we and our fellow small producers affected by the recall do not know the details of the USDA investigation, we are working hard to learn more, and are looking to the USDA for their leadership in this crisis to minimize the damage and find the most constructive path forward. We will share more details as we have them."
