WASHINGTON – Misbranding and an undeclared allergen prompted Prime Snax Inc., a Salt Lake City, Utah meat-snack producer, to recall approximately 90,000 lbs. of beef jerky products, the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) reported. There have been no reports of adverse reactions related to consumption of the products.

The jerky products were made with a releasing agent containing soy lecithin, a known
allergenthat was not declared on the product label. An FSIS in-plant inspector discovered the problem during a label review. The company believed the releasing did not need to be declared on the label, FSIS noted.

The affected products were made before Feb. 2 and were shipped to retail locations nationwide. The products bear the establishment number “EST. 18951” inside the USDA Mark of Inspection and a date on the packages prior to Aug. 11, 2015, in the format of “mm dd yy.” Brands include Arizona Jacks, Desert Star, Southwest Trail, Terrell and Kettle Creek.
