Cargill to close animal nutrition facility in Spain

MADRID – Cargill’s animal nutrition business plans to add a new production line to its facility in Mequinenza (Zaragoza), Spain. The company said it will invest €20 million ($22.5 million) to expand production capabilities at the plant. But the expansion at the Mequinenza facility means production at Cargill’s Colmenar Viejoplant will end. At least 40 employees will be affected.

“Spain remains a growing market and to meet the demand, producers are professionalizing and scaling up their operations,” Alberto Martínez, managing director for Cargill’s animal nutrition business in Spain, said in a statement. “We have been operating in Mequinenza since 2000 and this investment will enable our customers to obtain the best possible solutions, leveraging our global research and production capabilities.”

Cargill said the new line at the Mequinenza plant will improve logistics and distribution systems. The plant is expected to be operational in the third quarter of 2017.
