Fritz Usinger's family-owned sausage business is four generations strong.
Fritz Usinger is the fourth generation to run his family’s sausage business, Fred Usinger’s Inc. The company was founded in 1880 by his great-grandfather, Fred, a German sausage maker who settled in the Milwaukee area when he was about 18 years old.
Fritz visits with a customer in the company’s retail store, which is a fixture on Milwaukee’s Old World 3rd Street and is on the ground floor of what was formerly Usinger’s processing plant.
Usinger’s retail store is an important part of its heritage and its old-school design has been preserved as a tribute to its history. “That’s our image,” says Fritz. “It’s our front Door.”
Processors are delivering meat snacks in new formats and flavors.
