Making meat and poultry convenient

Meat and poultry processors presented a range of ready-to-eat and heat-and-eat items at the 2017 NACS Show held in Chicago.

Chunky Maxx Soup

Camden, New Jersey-based Campbell Soup Company showcased its new shelf-stable Chunky Maxx line as a quick heat-and-eat option for the convenience channel. Each Chunky Maxx soup is loaded with 40 percent more meat than the comparable Chunky soup variety. The new line includes: Bison Bacon Burger, Black Angus Beef, Chicken & Bacon, Chicken & Sausage Gumbo, Sirloin Steak and Smoked Turkey & Bacon Corn Chowder. 

Jerky & Nut Savory Snack Bars

Post Holdings’ PowerBar brand, Glendale, California, unveiled a trio of protein-packed bars called Jerky & Nut Savory Snack Bars. These snack bars feature a blend of beef jerky, nuts and seeds in barbecue, original and teriyaki flavors.

Rip ‘N’ Ready Pouches

New to the convenience channel is Sampco’s Rip ‘N’ Ready shelf-stable line of fully cooked, ready-to-eat meat pouches. Sampco, short for South American Meat Products Company, is part of the JBS family of food companies. The convenience products, which range in size from 7 oz.  to 10 oz., come in stand-up merchandising units for easy display. The range includes entrees such as meatballs with spaghetti sauce, roast beef with gravy and taco meat.

Tyson Foods Chicken Nuggets

Tyson Foods, Springdale, Arkansas, debuted a convenient form of 3.7-oz. microwaveable boxes of chicken nuggets. The single-serve packs come in a merchandising unit for easy display in freezer cases.

The individual grilled chicken breast filets come packaged like refrigerated nutrition bars. Single units for the convenience channel can be merchandised in display boxes, while five single units come perforated together for supermarkets. Rich in protein, low in saturated fats, salt and also calories, the packet is perfect for on-the-go dining. Simply tear it open and take a bite.
