WASHINGTON – National Steak and Poultry, based in Owasso, Oklahoma, announced on Dec. 4, the expansion of an earlier recall of ready-to-eat chicken products that now includes 1,993, 528 lbs. of product due to the possibility of it being undercooked. The expansion includes additional production dates and distribution, from Aug. 20, 2016, through Nov. 30, 2016, and cases of the products were shipped to foodservice outlets throughout the US as well as to retail customers. The recall was expanded after a foodservice customer reported that the product appeared to be undercooked on Nov. 28. The original recall of 17,439 lbs. of product was issued on Nov. 23 after a foodservice customer complained of undercooked products on Nov. 14. No confirmed cases of illnesses or adverse health effects have been reported as a result of consumption of the products and the products should not be consumed. Once available, the list of retailers receiving the product will be posted on the US Dept. of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service’s website.   

The original recall, issued Nov. 23, included the following products produced Oct. 4, 2016:

  • 5-lb. bags packed 2 bags per case; product labeled “Distributed by National Steak and Poultry, Owasso, OK Fully Cooked, Diced, Grilled Boneless Chicken Breast Meat with Rib Meat” with Lot code 100416, and Case Code: 70020.
  • 5-lb. bags packed 2 bags per case; product labeled “Hormel Natural Choice 100% Natural No Preservatives Fully Cooked Roasted Chicken Breast Strips with Rib Meat Natural Smoke Flavor Added” with Lot code 100416, and Case code 702113.

The cases containing the products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-6010T” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to food service locations nationwide and should not be in consumers’ possession. No other Hormel product is impacted.
