BUFFALO, NY – Rich Products Corp. has expanded its voluntary recall to include all products made at its Waycross, Ga., plant, according to the US Food and Drug Administration. The expanded recall is in addition to products recalled on March 28, totaling 10.5 million lbs. of product.

Initially Rich Products recalled approximately 196,222 lbs. of frozen chicken quesadilla and other frozen mini-meals and snacks on concerns the products may be contaminated with E. coli O121. The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta reported a total of 24 people were infected with the outbreak strain of E. coli O121.

FDA said the company is unaware of any illnesses associated with the products included in the expanded recall, but the company acted out of caution.

“When it became apparent to us that, despite the expertise of the USDA, the FDA, the scientific community and our own experts, identification of a specific cause was not going to be a simple or short process, we decided to act proactively to expand the recall,” said Bill Gisel, president and CEO.

The affected products were distributed nationwide to retail stores and select food service distribution customers, according to FDA.
