KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Sausage LLC announced it will acquire the assets of Martin's Abattoir & Wholesale Meats and its sister companies.

A letter of intent states that Kansas City Sausage will acquire the assets of Martin's Abattoir, Coastal Protein Products Inc. and Coastal Protein Inc., the company said in a news release. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2014 subject to customary closing conditions. No other details of the transaction were released.


Kansas City Sausage said the acquisition of Martin’s Abattoir provides the company the ability to expand harvest and sausage operations in North Carolina while taking advantage of an abundant sow base. The deal is part of the company's strategy for sustained growth and product line expansion while maintaining a successful supply chain. Kansas City Sausage said the company will continue to supply high quality sausage and raw materials to the industry.

Martin's Abattoir was founded in 1955 by Carlton Martin along with his father, W.C. (Cap) Martin, and later joined by his brother W.C. Martin Jr. Martin’s Abattoir, which operated in Sampson County, NC, ceased operations on Sept. 16, 2013.
